"...Quint’s violin playing had such fantastic character in this concerto. His playing was assertive and colourful, full of personality; suave and debonair in the first movement and full of gently glowing lyricism. He sounded sleek and gorgeous in the slow movement and swashbuckled his way through the finale with a dashing sense of harum-scarum. His sound throbbed with vibrato and was perfectly spotlit without ever sounding garish.

Charlie Chaplin's Smile

Concertonet.com

by Roman Markowicz

"Mr. Quint, throughout his presentation, offered us an impeccable command of violin, dead‑on intonation, a style of playing perfectly suited to that particular repertory and the gorgeous sound of his violin, which happens to be a Strad; that helps too! He is an elegant player, who absorbed the old‑fashioned manner of playing but does it with the authority of his own; nothing in his interpretations of several compilations of Chaplin’s tunes sounded mannered or self‑conscious; now he owns this repertory. Equally impressive was the presentation, very well written and delivered narrative, seamless traversal between music and speech, well‑thought‑out and sensible choice of pictures and video clips and varied arrangements, including the previously mentioned decision to include “surprise guests” especially as great as the pair of the tango dancers."

Portrait for violin and piano: Astor Piazzolla’s lifelong musical arc from Bach to Grand Tango

"Thus violinist Quint, whose virtuosity and personal immersion in the tango idiom illuminated Pianoforte’s intimate recital space, began his neatly framed narrative where Piazzolla had begun — deep in the tango milieu in which he grew up, but also with the siren song of European classical music in the air."

Celebrating the Centennial of Tango Master Astor Piazzolla in Grand Style

"...a remarkable program ...Quint’s deftly narrated program – which included performances of more than a dozen short but devilishly difficult pieces by Piazzolla, as well as by tango legend Carlos Gardel, Ginastera, Stravinsky, Bartok, Boulanger, Duke Ellington and J.S. Bach – the gradual evolution of the nuevo tango came vividly to life.

Philippe debuts his new multimedia program "Between Angels and Demons"  in celebration of Piazzolla's Centennial.

San Fransisco Classical Voice Review:

"The 80-minute program, presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County and streaming through April 13, is the vigorous handiwork of Philippe Quint, a first-rate violinist who conceived and narrates the tribute...Quint performs a flowing cascade of musical selections. There are Piazzolla tangos, of course, from early works to the intoxicating, concerto-like “Le Grand Tango,” in an arrangement by Sofia Gubaidulina, that caps the evening.

But the majority of the music is by other composers, from Jerry Bock (a twitchily inflected number from his Fiddler on the Roof) to Bartók, Stravinsky to Duke Ellington to Bach. Quint’s purpose here is to demonstrate the breadth of his subject’s tastes, aspirations, and influences."
